Language Schools

Language schools are as varied as the languages themselves. Most language schools are for-profit; that is, students contract with a school for lessons in a foreign language. Some language schools are run in conjunction with a university. A language school is typically either independent entities or franchises for corporations.

Most language schools are not accredited institutions and cannot offer college credit. Language schools are increasingly adding value to their courses by offering further instruction in a range of activities. These days, many language schools are adding internship placements to their programs. Free online language courses are also starting to be offered as an added incentive, and language home study capabilities too.

Language Study Abroad

English language schools are among the most numerous in Asian countries such as China, Japan and South Korea, as Western culture influences the rising demand for English in business and cultural contexts. English language courses are comprehensive and often include fantastic conversational English components

Language schools are located in every country in the world for language study abroad, and these schools can teach you the language from beginning to advanced levels. Spanish language schools, French language schools and Italian language schools are available in Costa Rica, France, Italy, Mexico, Peru and Spain for your international language studies.

Foreign language study courses that include accommodation (often half-board, consisting of breakfast and an evening meal) usually represent good value. A language course will typically begin with a placement test to ensure that you're in the right class for you. These generally have more flexible courses and schedules, and focus on speaking and listening skills equally to or more than reading and writing.

Some Chinese language schools also offer mathematics and computer courses in Chinese. Chinese language schools are a major source of Chinese language instruction at the K–12 level and help prepare students for courses in advanced Chinese and Chinese literature at colleges and universities.

Not all students enrolling for a language course abroad will necessarily require a student visa. No matter which foreign language you study or country you choose, there is no better or more exciting way to learn a new language than by attending a language school while surrounded by native speakers and their culture.

High School + Foreign Language

Will foreign language be required in school for children? Some schools already are, especially where there are a large number of immigrants speaking another language. In most cases, language courses are geared towards, but not limited to, communicative competence in a foreign language. Language learning in such schools typically supplements formal education or experience in a foreign language, and usually receive foundation grants for foreign language study.
